People knew this was coming; more proof of the erosion of the American shoreline of decency. The tides have shifted in recent years as the liberal media has supported and perpetuated same-sex marriage (ssm).
Cartoons, soap operas, Hollywood films, newscasters, politicians, weather people, the major net providers, all paved the way for the ‘normality’ of ssm, and a great contributor to this cause is a government gone wild, proved by the Supreme Courts blessing on this depravity.
The honorable Mr. Scalia offered a dose of common sense which was mocked and ignored. He said this issue should never have reached the steps of the court, but I would add there is a component that the Court could have used to settle this matter once and for all. He writes:
In the majority’s telling, this story is black-and-white: Hate your neighbor or come along with us. The truth is more complicated. It is hard to admit that one’s political opponents are not monsters, especially in a struggle like this one, and the challenge in the end proves more than today’s Court can handle. Too bad. A reminder that disagreement over something so fundamental as marriage can still be politically legitimate would have been a fit task for what in earlier times was called the judicial temperament. We might have covered ourselves with honor today, by promising all sides of this debate that it was theirs to settle and that we would respect their resolution. We might have let the People decide.
But that the majority will not do. Some will rejoice in today’s decision, and some will despair at it; that is the nature of a controversy that matters so much to so many. But the Court has cheated both sides, robbing the winners of an honest victory, and the losers of the peace that comes from a fair defeat. We owed both of them better. I dissent.
Who defines marriage? How do we know what the moon is, and not a mere speck of white dust called ‘skysand’ which lights up on occasion? Answer the second question and the marriage definition is equally clear. And this is the salient point that is jumped over like an Olympic hurdle for the gold medal.
Marriage has always been defined in the context of a man and a woman. It is now chic to ‘make our own dictionary’ that keeps pace with the times. Ultimately, ssm leads to a derision of the Creator; oh yes, man needs an excuse to have his conscience assuaged, and what better way than to have a court give people a free pass to traffic in ‘different’ behaviour.
The Supreme Court has given the green light to sin, and many are elated, but a spiritual mind should not be surprised. ‘Evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse,’ saith the Lord, and this Court decision is a perfect description of how seduction is applauded.
When Israel of old asked for a king, God gave them Saul, but sent leanness to their souls. America in effect, has asked for a king, God gave them Obama, and well, the same results fell upon a country whose heart has hardened. A nation who forgets God is a nation whose days are numbered.
The decision was 5-4, with the usual suspects voting ‘for’ the approval of ssm. No surprise here with Kagan, Sotomayor, and Ginsberg leading the charge.
Mr Scalia has offered reality and the dissent by stating ‘the truth is more complicated than that.’ But people do not want truth, they want a ‘king,’ they want what is popular.
Let God be true, and every man a liar, yet there is another way for men to decide if ssm is really good for a healthy society, and that is the testimony of nature.
‘Does not nature itself teach you?’ asked the apostle, and I agree with him, that nature is indeed an excellent teacher. Plus-minus, good-bad, hot-cold, sun- moon, man-woman, male-female. This is very easy to an unprejudiced and honest mind.
Ssm is not a religious issue per se, it is a matter of decency, civility, and humanity. My invoking the Creator here only states the obvious. I applaud the Supremes who defended marriage without making it a matter of God versus man, and the others? Well, they caved to the pressure of a culture of shame, and this decision will only hasten the fall of America.
The greater problem? Why the opinion was not 9-0 siding with Scalia. In the meantime, God bless America. Oh how He is patient.
