Third times a charm

I asked this in three places, and received no answer, but I’m pretty sure it is a fair question, and worthy of immediate consideration. Short and sweet, enjoy.

Apart from intelligence, WHY is there only ONE moon for the earth and not two, ten, or a thousand?

To be fair, I can understand why certain people drive the other direction and avoid this inconvenient revelation. Charmed I’m sure.

That is a good question. I wonder if it is a nod to the uniqueness of planet earth. One sun, one moon, one inhabitable planet? Two moons might have been too much for the ocean tides? I guess I don’t have a good theory, but I do like the question!

The uniqueness of earth? Ha. Where else will you find leather, wood for heat, water, gold, birds, fish, whales, coal, diamonds, even male and female, or even the scriptures which explains it all.

But there is more to the moon than meets the eye, for instance, it’s own lighting properties. 😉

Talking about God at creation here, long before there were people doncha know. El-Shaddai was not revealed as such, El-Elyon not revealed as such, but God over all creation, a world in which you now partake. Instead of doubting Him, or questioning His existence, why don’t you try for once in your life, to THANK Him. It’s His moon.

A hallmark of a society gone sideways is that man are unthankful. Don’t be that man.

Intelligence isn’t a good answer to the why and seems to assume a purpose where none exists.

That earth has just the one moon, is as arbitrary and mercury and venus having none, mars two and the mighty gas giants quite a few more.

Physics will explain why the inner planets have so few moons. They are smaller that the gas giants and so the chances of them gaining moons is very small. Mars’ two moons are thought to be captured rocks, this makes sense because mars being the furthest out from the sun will have a greater chance at capturing a rock. This is an observation that is consistent with science.

The earth and its moon consist of the same rock types, suggesting they were once the same object. This is also consistent with the gradual decay of it’s orbit. Current thinking is that it was formed in a massive collision. An idea that fits with what we know.

So why does the earth have one moon? Chance, that’s why.

Oh and sometime earth has more than one moon.

Your link is absurd, so it is gone; it is an irrelevant smokescreen, that need not pollute this fine short post. That planets have more than one moon, and others none, proves the main point of this post.

Yes, INTELLIGENCE decided that there be ONE moon for the earth, as a light for night, that we not be lost as fog. And your suggestion of ‘chance’ is pure rubbish sorry to say. How low has mankind fallen in intellect that even the obvious is considered strange is a tragedy and an insult to common sense.

Search on “why does the earth have only one moon”, and that will turn up the sort of answer limey provided. What is bit more interesting is searching on “how does the moon affect the earth”? Here is example: http://www.astronomytoday.com/astronomy/earthmoon.html.

Assuming that our solar system formed as many astronomers, then the existence of the moon is fortuitous to say the least. Accidental? Well, when so many accidents are needed to make life as we know possible, that does not seem likely.

Sorry CT, but I can’t stomach links that prove nothing but baseless assumptions. This is why people complain that I do not post links of anything and everything, because it is merely a springboard for eternal conversation that I neither have the time nor the interest in.

For example,’the earth and moon were of one structure? Really? Sez who? Where is the proof other than assumption, theory, and endless speculation?

God’s word does speak to these things, I am of the opinion that we as believers do not think so. I think so.

The moon and the sun were NOT one unit. There was no ‘falling away’ so to speak. The moon is not a special rock, but a unique light, just as the Creator made.

There are far too many loopholes and wild guesses in that linked article to address, but I really do not like godless so-called science, which needs atheism to survive.

          @ColorStorm

We have not observed planetary collisions of the sort that supposedly resulted in our moon. So the theory is based upon computer calculations. Have no idea how accurate they are. Since we cannot do experiments on that scale, I doubt anyone does. It is just that no one can see any reason why it would not work that way.

I believe the Creation story, but I was not around. Don’t know any “man” who was except Jesus. So I don’t presume to know exactly what happened. When people come up with their various theories, I don’t get upset. When someone says life evolved, and they say it with absolute faith that is true I just shrug. When people say that sort of thing and they have no way of proving it, they have just proved that their belief is religious, not scientific.

At that point I get to behave like one of our favorite Atheists. I get to ask for PROOF. Of course, they start citing all kinds of circumstantial evidence, and the fun begins.

That’s the trouble with theories Tom, whoever has the cleverest imagination wins the day. Nothing is ever proven.

God made the moon………separate from the earth, as is the sun. A night light as it were, for a purpose, not one of two, but one of one.

HOW He did it, well now, that’s a horse of a different color. But we have enough information where we do not have to speculate.

The moon is not recycled or a grand accident, or an evolutionary anomaly.

I dare say modern science is dead wrong in their godless assumptions, and this is the consensus by great men who hold God’s word near and dear.

God made our imaginations too, and sometimes they serve a valid purpose. We cannot even imagine God, but we could not begin to know Him without imagining what He must be like. And yet we will be wrong because our minds are finite.

The amount of dedication that went into the lunar bibles is kind of awesome. 40,000 prayer warriors, 3 separate attempts, huge coordination with NASA and the gov. Than there is the tale of communion on the moon, too. I just find these things interesting because today we are all about “science,” and seem to have forgotten that these were all Christians, that bibles, communion, prayer were all ordinary things at the time, “normal.” Those parts have all been edited out of the story.
